Prison Law Office has reached a tentative settlement in our class action lawsuit over medical and mental health care and disability discrimination in the Riverside jails. The County Board of Supervisors has signed off on the negotiated settlement. Next, it goes to the court for preliminary approval, and then people in the jail will have an opportunity to comment. After considering those comments, the court will decide whether to issue a final approval. As part of the settlement, the County has agreed to a significant increase in staffing and stringent requirements on health care delivery to ensure that people in the jail receive constitutional care. Two independent experts will audit their progress to ensure compliance.
See The Press Enterprise article about the settlement.
