Chavez v. County of Santa Clara

In November 2015, the Prison Law Office filed a federal class action lawsuit challenging certain conditions at the Santa Clara County jails, including restrictive housing, medical care, mental health care, dental care, non-mobility disabilities, and excessive force by staff. The case settled in 2019 and Santa Clara County agreed to a Remedial Plan that requires them to fix the issues raised in the lawsuit. The Prison Law Office and independent experts continue to monitor whether Santa Clara County is following the Remedial Plan in the County's jails.
